Dan, KB6NU, got his start in radio by listening to SW radio broadcasts on his grandparents’ Philco console radio. He was aided and abetted in his avocation by his father, who was a hi-fi nut and subscribed to Popular Electronics and Electronics Illustrated.

Dan obtained his Novice license in 1971, and passed the General Class license in 1972. He built a Heathkit HW-101 to get on SSB, but after a few phone contacts, he couldn’t figure out what all the fuss was about and has been an ardent CW operator ever since.

Dan blogs about amateur radio at KB6NU.Com and is the author of the No Nonsense amateur radio license study guides and The CW Geek’s Guide to Having Fun with Morse Code.
